Vacant positions cost companies nearly one million dollars each year, according to a 2017 CareerBuilder Survey, but there’s a surefire way fill those spots. It starts by employing our country’s veterans.

“Two-hundred and fifty thousand of them, every year, get out of the military. And, basically, put those numbers together, the 250,000 relatable skill-type of operators that would be a wonderful fit in the cybersecurity industry, to help fill that gap,” says Stephan Tallent, senior director, MSSP and service enablement at Fortinet.

Tallent is referring to the cybersecurity skills gap. According to ISACA—a non-profit information security advocacy group—there’s a global shortage of two million cybersecurity professionals. “If you’re a business that’s trying to hire a security engineer, you get into these bidding wars, and you’re constantly trying to retain security operators that are being recruited left, right and center on LinkedIn,” says Tallent.

Fortinet is trying to solve that problem with its FortiVet program. FortiVet unlocks a new workforce and helps our nation’s veterans at the same time.

FortiVet benefits include:

“It’s a constant requirement to educate,” says Tallent. “Certifications equal operational maturity and operational efficiencies.”

The Fortinet veterans program selection process is competitive. Every veteran is placed into a category based on their qualifications. And, it’s free for partners to view the current FortiVets.
