WATCH: Intel Talks Edge Computing, 5G And More At Dell Technologies World

Intel’s Ryan McCurdy discusses its new Video Security & Surveillance product and other collaborations with Dell Technologies in an interview with CRNtv.

It’s been 35 years since Dell got its start and Intel Corp.’s been by its side from the beginning. At Dell Technologies World, Intel’s Ryan McCurdy, VP of Global Accounts, discussed what’s next for the partnership as they push ahead towards a 5G future.

Dell has transformed its portfolio to help customers take advantage of transformative trends like 5G, AI and cloud. How are you innovating with Dell to transform IT from edge to core to cloud?

McCurdy: “I think one of the great things that Dell and Intel are working on together is the Video Security & Surveillance, a real example where explosion of data is happening. We are allowing businesses to create products, real time analytics at the edge for video and security and surveillance. You mentioned 5G and this reduces latency and allows core-to-cloud-to-edge and you have these products that basically couldn’t exist in the old infrastructure. Now that we have 5G, low- latency networks and high bandwidth, you’re able to do things we didn’t do in the past.”

You recently launched new data-centric solutions. How are you taking these to market with Dell?

McCurdy: “We have the construct that we call move, store and compute and we brought the entire set of products together to show what Intel can do. That’s unique. And, really the star of the launch was the Second Generation Xeon Scalable Product. This product will be the fastest ramping product in history and that’s really due to the gen over gen performance increases. It’s almost 30 percent. It’s more than we’ve delivered in the last five years and in addition to that we have deep learning boost and, essentially, it’s the first CPU integrated with enhancements for AI. It’s the fastest growing workload and we’ve integrated that into our CPU, so no new software or hardware needed. Dell and Intel are taking these products to market this year and we are excited about what we can do together.”

How will partners play a role in bringing these solutions to market?

McCurdy: “I heard today over 50 percent of Dell’s business goes through the channel. Double-digit growth in servers and client. The business is exploding. With the complexity of the solutions that we are bringing to market, the importance of the channel partners is so critical. Whether you’re a national service provider, a distributor, a regional partner, we are going to need these partners going forward to grow and ramp the business together.”
