Qumulo Co-Founder, CTO Peter Godman To Exit
Peter Godman is leaving Qumulo, the cloud NAS technology developer he co-founded in 2012 with several former colleagues of Dell EMC's Isilon business.
Godman's pending departure was first reported by GeekWire, which said Godman had already left the company.
However, Qumulo, in a statement emailed to CRN, said that Godman has not actually left the Seattle-based company yet and that it is conducting an active search for a new chief technology officer.
Qumulo CEO Bill Richter, in a separate statement emailed to CRN, confirmed Godman's pending departure.
"I can confirm that after nearly seven years with Qumulo, Pete Godman is moving on. Pete’s a visionary, an inspiration and a good friend. On behalf of the whole team here at Qumulo, I want to thank him and wish him the best on a well-deserved break, time with his family and his next adventure," Richter said.
Qumulo was formed in 2012 by key veterans of Dell EMC's Isilon scale-out NAS business. It came out of stealth in 2015 with the introduction of its data-aware, scale-out NAS platform.
The company in June raised what it expects could be its last round of funding. That round, worth $93 million, brings total funding in Qumulo to $233 million.
Godman was Qumulo's original CEO, but stepped down from that role in November 2016 when Richter was brought on board as CEO.
Qumulo is the developer of the Qumulo File Fabric, a scalable file storage system that runs in the data center and the public cloud. It scales to up to billions of files, and can manage small files as efficiently as it does large files, letting customers manage file-based data at petabyte and global scale, the company said.
The company's technology is software-defined storage, and runs on either Qumulo-supplied hardware or on HPE Apollo server appliances.
Aaron Cardenas, CEO and founder of P1 Technologies, a Hermosa Beach, Calif.-based solution provider and Qumulo channel partner, told CRN that he recently spoke with Godman.
"I'm a huge fan of Peter both as a person and as an engineer and as a technology leader," Cardenas said. "He told me he's somebody who likes to build something. He said he wants to get back to building something new, and that Qumulo was on a solid foundation."
Cardenas said that he agrees that Qumulo is on a solid foundation.
"I like the product, and we've done a lot with it," he said. "Peter presented three or four years at our P1 Storage Summit, and people loved listening to him. He was always bringing something new and interesting to the conference."
