WATCH: Cybereason Co-Founder On Why Another Marriott-Sized Breach Could Be On Its Way

It’s been one week since Marriott disclosed a massive data breach tied to as many as 500 million guests of its Starwood hotels. Hackers had access to names, mailing addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and passports. CRNtv sat down with Cybereason’s Co-Founder and CTO Yonatan Striem Amit to learn what solution providers need to know so they don’t become a victim.

“A lot of companies are already breached and they don’t even know about it. They have to start thinking: If we are already breached, how do we handle this?”

Cybereason is a Boston-based cybersecurity firm, specializing in endpoint protection, detection and response. Amit says it’s critical that solution providers and their customers put forward a boardroom discussion and adopt a mentality that constantly analyzes whether a threat’s progressing in their environments.

“I strongly recommend prioritizing service-oriented post-breach analysis, what’s called the managed detection and response field. That’s a very, very impactful thing for every one of you.”

Amit also discussed the top lessons learned from the Marriott breach, which is featured in the video included in this article. Meanwhile, the fallout from the breach continues for Marriott, who recently announced that it would reimburse some hotel guests with new passports. It comes after the hotel chain faced heavy criticism from Democratic Senator from New York Chuck Schumer.

Reports say China is behind the attack. Marriott continues to investigate.
