CommScope Near Deal To Acquire Arris For More Than $5.6B: Report

Telecom gear vendor CommScope is close to a deal to acquire Ruckus Wireless parent Arris International for north of $5.6 billion and could announce the transaction as soon as Wednesday, according to a CNBC report.

The $31-a-share, all-cash deal would mean yet another parent company for networking vendor Ruckus, which has been on an acquisition odyssey since 2016.

Ruckus was acquired by Brocade in May of 2016. The following November, Broadcom announced it would buy Brocade in a $5.9 billion deal originally scheduled to close before Aug. 1, 2017. As part of the transaction, Ruckus was to be sold by Broadcom to Suwanee, Ga.-based Arris. Those plans were delayed, however, and the Broadcom-Brocade deal didn't close until mid-November 2017. Arris finally closed the acquisition of Ruckus last December.

At the time, Arris said acquiring Ruckus would allow the company to build out its enterprise networking business. Ruckus launched a new channel program last July.
