Cambium Networks And Xirrus: Now An Enterprise Wireless Option

Cambium Networks recently acquired Xirrus and the combined provider can be considered for larger clients thanks to its density and management capabilities, Cambium said.

Cambium Networks, now combined with Xirrus, has the simplicity, density and management capabilities that MSPs need to service the highly demanding wireless networking needs of their customers, the company said.

Cambium wants partners -- both existing and prospective -- to know that even though its historically been thought of as a small business solution, the complimentary Xirrus and Cambium portfolios can also be a wireless option for the enterprise, said Ty Parker, regional technical manager for Cambium Networks told MSPs.

Rolling Meadows, Ill.-based Cambium in August acquired Xirrus Wi-Fi products and cloud services from Riverbed Technology to boost its enterprise networking portfolio. The company is currently working on integrating Xirrus' high-density technology into the Cambium enterprise platform.

Specifically, Xirrus technology will complement cnPilot, Cambium's indoor and outdoor cloud-managed Wi-Fi solution for businesses. Together, environments will require less access points because of the higher number of radios in the now-combined portfolio of Cambium and Xirrus access points, the company said.

Cambium is also giving end users policy enforcement capabilities and intelligence at the edge of the network, where they need it, to handle emerging use cases, such as IoT, Parker said.

For partners, the combined solutions coupled with the single management console, CommandCenter, will help MSPs handle their client's entire network environment with zero-touch provisioning. "It's designed to make your lives easier," Parker told partners.

Alfi Computers, a Encino, Calif.-based MSP, provides IT services, including cybersecurity, wireless, networking, and consulting to its base of small business customers. The company is currently evaluating several wireless networking providers to add to its portfolio, including Ruckus, now under CommScope, and Cambium Networks, said Anvar Alfi, owner of Alfi Computers.

"Cambium is very impressive," Alfi said. "Now with Xirrus, they are more of an option. I like that they have independent access points without having to buy the controller, which could be great for my small businesses."

Cambium plans on fully integrating the Xirrus portfolio within its existing product line, Parker said. A combined switching portfolio is slated to be released within the next two years, he said.
