WATCH: How HSBC Is Using Smartwatches To Modernize The Way It Does Banking

HSBC has partnered with Samsung on piloting a program in which branch bankers wear the Gear S3 smartwatch, allowing them to send and receive messages, or speak to colleagues using small microphones.

CRNtv saw the technology in action at HSBC’s flagship Fifth Avenue branch in Manhattan. The biggest asset is that the smartwatches allow employees to easily engage throughout the three floors of the branch. Rather than be tethered to fixed locations like desks and offices with traditional communication channels, employees now have more freedom to communicate with each other anywhere, anytime, in order to better serve customers.

Initial results show improved customer waiting times, as well as more efficient communication and responsiveness between team members. HSBC will also use the insights to better understand and monitor peak times and identify better ways of working, so they can continue to make appropriate staffing decisions.
