Lenovo, the No. 3 manufacturer in the U.S. market, ranked just behind HP for growth during the third quarter--with PC shipments climbing 10.5 percent from the same period a year before, according to Gartner’s figures.

Dell, which maintained the second-largest market share in the U.S., grew shipments by 6.1 percent for the quarter, year-over-year. Apple’s growth during the quarter came in at 7 percent from a year earlier.

All in all, the U.S. PC market had a “strong quarter” for PC sales in Q3, with shipments rising 11.4 percent from the same quarter in 2019, Gartner said in a news release.

Growth of mobile PCs surged 29 percent, though sales of desktops declined—as remote workers and students tended to favor laptops over desktops.

“PC demands in the U.S. were also backed by the gradual economic recovery throughout the quarter, including a rebound in employment and an improved consumer confidence index,” said Mikako Kitagawa, research director at Gartner, in the release.

Gartner’s PC shipments figures do not include Chromebooks, the affordably priced laptops that are the go-to device in K-12 education.

HP’s fiscal third quarter, ended July 31, marked an all-time quarterly record for PC shipments at the company, CEO Enrique Lores said during a call with reporters and analysts in late August. And HP is “confident on the performance of this business going forward,” Lores said.

Here are Gartner’s U.S. PC shipments and market-share figures for the third quarter of 2020:
