Dell Technologies has created two new ruggedized Latitude laptops with Windows 11 targeting 5G and edge computing environments.

“These rugged laptops are really cool,” said Rick Gouin, chief technology officer at Winslow Technology Group, a Waltham, Mass.-based Dell partner. “They’re accompanied by interesting use cases that tie into the larger edge architecture discussion.”

Dell’s new Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme and Latitude Rugged 5430 laptops are designed to withstand harsh environments while still maintaining the highest levels of performance and connectivity.

The new Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme laptop is 5G capable and ready to take on the most extreme environments as the industry’s smallest 13” fully-rugged laptop, Dell said. Dell’s 7000 series of Latitude laptops are designed for the Intel Evo vPro Platform along with Intel’s 11th Gen Core i7 processors.

Dell’s new Latitude Rugged 5430 laptop is 5G enabled and the industry’s lightest and most powerful 14’’ semi-rugged laptop, the company said. The Latitude 5000 series of laptops include Intel vPro technology, which are the most manageable vPro-enabled business laptops in the market today, the Round Rock, Texas-based company said.

Dell Technologies founder, CEO and chairman Michael Dell said the laptops, as well as other edge computing innovation his company launched this week, enables new opportunities in the “next great frontier” of IT.

“The edge is technology’s next great frontier, and it’s all around us, everywhere from retail to manufacturing, smart cities and hospitals,” said Dell in a statement today at Dell Technologies Summit. “At Dell, we’re innovating simple solutions, so organizations can analyze data closer to where it’s created, make faster decisions, improve outcomes and drive progress.”

Both the Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme and 5430 laptops will become globally available for order on Dec. 9, 2021, and will be shipped with Windows 11. These new laptops join Dell’s growing list of PCs that will include pre-installed Windows 11, such as the Dell XPS 13 and Dell Inspiron 16 Plus.

The new Latitude laptops announcement comes as Dell won the market leadership position in terms of the number of PCs shipped in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2021, according to new data this week from IT research firm Gartner.

Dell shipped 5.6 million PCs in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2021, up 10 percent year over year to claim the No. 1 market share spot in the U.S.

Dell won 26.1 percent market share of the PC shipment market in the U.S., followed by Hewlett Packard at 24.5 percent share, and then Lenovo at 16.6 percent share. Dell’s 26.1 percent market share in the third quarter is up from 21.6 percent share year over year.

On a worldwide basis, Dell is growing its PC shipment market share faster than any other company in the world. Dell notched its fourth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth on a global basis by shipping over 15 million shipments in a single quarter for the first time ever, according to Gartner.

Dell shipped a total of more than 15.2 million PCs in the third quarter on a worldwide basis, up a whopping 27 percent year over year. Although Dell still trails Lenovo and HP on a worldwide basis, Dell has been winning over PC market share over the past several quarters.

Gartner said Dell’s limited focus in the consumer market helped the company to be less impacted by slowed consumer PC demand.

In terms of Dell’s new Latitude ruggedized laptops, Winslow’s Gouin said Dell Technologies end-to-end edge computing innovation engine is roaring.

Over the past two weeks, Dell has unveiled a slew of new edge computing products including new PowerEdge servers, VxRail nodes and 5G enabled telecommunication software.

“Some of the more interesting aspects of the new edge products are the IoT platforms, capabilities, and outcome-focused solutions for customers,” said Gouin. “One of the new offerings is focused on a validated design for manufacturing, but Dell has specialized solutions targeting the edge for other verticals as well. … Dell has a great edge story.”
