Internet of Things and edge specialist Zebra Technologies is acquiring monitoring development vendor Temptime to boost Zebra’s healthcare business.

Zebra, who received a 5-Star rating in CRN’s 2018 Partner Program Guide, plans to integrate the privately-held manufacture’s healthcare monitoring solutions into Zebra’s ‘Enterprise Asset Intelligence’ vision around the intelligent edge and IoT environments.

“The acquisition of Temptime advances the integration of smart supplies into our Enterprise Asset Intelligence vision as we incorporate temperature-monitoring capabilities,” said Zebra’s CEO Anders Gustafsson in a statement. “We have the unique ability to scale this technology deeper into the healthcare industry and drive it into other key opportunities such as food safety that can benefit from increased asset visibility.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Temptime, founded in 1987, manufacturers temperature monitoring solutions for mission-critical applications in the healthcare industry. The Morris Plains, N.J.-based company’s technology visually notifies users if medical and biological products and shipments have experienced a temperature deviation.

Temptime president and CEO Renaat Van den Hooff said the company plans to advance its technology from visual to digital temperature indicators as part of Zebra. “Zebra’s expertise in healthcare complements our commitment to supporting our humanitarian mission of improving global health,” he said in a statement.

Lincolnshire, Ill.-based Zebra, which has a market cap of $9.27 billion, is striving to enable asset intelligence through smarter devices, things and environments. Temptime provides a time-temperature monitoring product portfolio that meets strict specifications of the largest global health organizations’ vaccination programs.

Zebra expects the acquisition to close in the first quarter of 2019.
