WATCH: Radio City Rockettes Get A Tech Upgrade With Help From Intel

The Rockettes aren’t the only one’s dancing at this year’s Christmas Spectacular.

Intel has joined forces with the Madison Square Garden Company to bring a drone light show over the stage of Radio City. It’s said to be the first drone performance of its kind for theater, featuring 100 Intel Shooting Star Mini drones that are pre-programmed with algorithms to change color and fly without a GPS. To help with that, Intel developed a location system to allow the drones to navigate within an enclosed space.

Intel is known for its drone light shows as previously seen during the Super Bowl, Coachella and at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The most recent addition in NYC takes the technology to a new level in that the drones are specifically designed for the indoors.

The drones make their appearance during the finale scene of the Christmas Spectacular. Rockettes Creative Director Karen Keeler describes that scene and its challenges in CRNtv’s video. The show continues until Jan. 6.
