Oracle is opening a new “Generation 2 Cloud” data center in Sydney this month specifically designed to accelerate customers’ move to the cloud by equipping the facility with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence-based applications, machine learning-integrated security and automated analytics.

“This is a whole new class of cloud, designed from the ground up to both host mission critical workloads and drive innovation,” said Valery Lanovenko, vice president of technology for Oracle in Australia and New Zealand, in a statement. “This new data center helps us address significant customer demand for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Autonomous Database, and meet local regulatory requirements.”

Redwood City, Calif.-based Oracle also has plans to open a second “Generation 2 Cloud” data center in Melbourne, Australia, in early 2020. With more than 4,000 customers in Australia and New Zealand, Oracle’s new data centers aim to address significant customer demand in the region.

Oracle, named in CRN’s 2019 Software-Defined Data Center 50, said the new data centers will help partners in the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) leverage the power of Oracle Cloud and services to scale and drive business growth in the region.

Partners such as Accenture, ranked No. 2 on CRN’s Solution Provider 500 list, said the new data center in Sydney positions the Chicago-based solution provider powerhouse in prime position to help customers better embrace the cloud.

“With Oracle’s Generation 2 Cloud Infrastructure services available from an Australian-based date center, we are now even better positioned to guide clients as they embrace cloud technologies,” said Richard Agnew, who leads Accenture’s Oracle IaaS and PaaS business across Asia Pacific. “This will help us combine the breadth of Oracle’s enterprise-grade offerings with our expertise and dedicated resources … for customers in the region and throughout Asia Pacific.”

The company’s new Generation 2 Cloud infrastructure is specifically architected to meet the needs of enterprise through an array of advanced technologies including the Oracle Autonomous Database that automatically encrypts data, backs itself up, tunes itself and automatically patches itself when a security threat is detected.

One regional Oracle customer, Australian Finance Group, said the new Generation 2 Cloud center will help drive growth for the financial organization. “To continue our rate of growth, we are looking to Oracle’s Generation 2 Data Center to enable us to scale our credit operations, further automate the decision-making process and build a strong sustainable business,” said Matthew Faries, CIO of Australian Finance Group, in a statement.

The Generation 2 Cloud data center delivers its own stack of complete and integrate set of cloud services and build intelligence into every layer of the cloud aimed at improving customer performance, operational efficiency and focusing on strategic outcomes.

Oracle plans to launch three other new data centers this month located in Mumbai, Zurich and Sao Paulo. Oracle boasts more than 430,000 customers in 175 countries around the world.
