Following a massive $250 million funding round earlier this year, fast-growing hyper-converged and storage startup Cohesity unveiled plans Tuesday to hire 300 new employees by summer 2019 at its San Jose, Calif.-based headquarters, as well as up to 70 employees at its North Carolina location.

The company is focused on rapidly expanding the size of its engineering team to accelerate innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning with its Cohesity DataPlaform optimized for hybrid cloud.

"We are planning to nearly double the size of Cohesity to 1,500 employees within a year, and while much of this growth will take place in the U.S., we will also see a significant workforce expansion in the EMEA region and in Asia – building on our partnership with SoftBank" said Paul Whitney, chief people officer at Cohesity in a statement.

Cohesity, named on CRN's 2017 Storage Startups You Need To Know, recently unveiled that it has quadrupled the size of its customer base while also increasing revenues by 300 percent year over year in its fiscal year 2018, which ended July 31.

In June, the company received $250 million in funding to expand its market reach with investors including Cisco, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Softbank. Cohesity recently revamped its partner program in October while also expanding its multi-cloud data protection service offerings.

Cohesity aims to disrupt the $60 billion secondary data and apps market by enabling customers to consolidate secondary data silos including backup, files and objects, testing and development, archiving, and analytics on a single web-scale platform. Cohesity founder and CEO Mohit Aron was chief technology officer and founder of hyper-converged pioneer Nutanix before launching Cohesity in 2013.

In November, Cohesity created an OEM partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which offers a jointly validated secondary data and apps solution on certified HPE servers to customers worldwide. The partnership combines the web-scale simplicity and efficiency of Cohesity software with the power and density of HPE Apollo and HPE ProLiant servers.

"These new hires will help Cohesity continue to deliver outstanding innovation that will empower customers to protect, store, and manage their apps and data simply and efficiently while solving critical mass data fragmentation challenges," said Whitney.
