Meet The Partner Powering Race Cars With Google Cloud

SADA Systems shares how it’s using Google Cloud to optimize braking and shifting for the U.S. RaceTronics team.

You couldn’t miss it: a race car front-and-center inside SADA System’s booth at Google Next 2019. The Google Premier Partner spent months analyzing data for the U.S. RaceTronics team and at the conference they were eager to share the results.

“Our engineers spent the last quarter at practices and at their racing events aggregating all of the data that is coming from the race car: speed, telemetry, tire usage, etc. We then aggregated all of this data in Google Cloud and built solutions using AI to visualize the team’s performance and to look at historical trends,” said Dana Berg, COO at the North Hollywood, Calif.-based MSP.

SADA’s solution optimized braking and shifting. It also enables the U.S. RaceTronics team to communicate in real-time using G Suite collaborative tools.

“They (the U.S. RaceTronics team) weren’t using any significant analytics before,” said Chris Lehman, head of engineering for Google Cloud at SADA Systems. “They didn’t have the capability of the scale of Google Cloud that we’re able to take advantage of. So for example: BigQuery is able to store all of the racing data they have and before they weren’t able to do that,” said Lehman.

Executives add that the technology used in the solution can easily be replicated for customers in other sectors.

“The concept of aggregating large data sets into Google Cloud and doing predictive analytics is something that every customer is very interested in,” added Berg.
