Cloud consulting startup CloudWerx achieved Google Cloud’s Premier Partner status faster than any other partner in Google Cloud’s channel history, with sales and customer wins exploding in 2022.

The San Jose, Calif.-based solution provider is on pace to increase its revenue by a whopping 10-times in 2022 compared to 2021, with Google Cloud sales accounting for the vast majority of sales.

“There was this perfect storm where Google Cloud got to a point where now they have the momentum, they’re big enough, have a solid platform, and they’re emerging—from a channel standpoint—where we can be extremely relevant very fast,” Jason Geis, CEO and co-founder of CloudWerx, told CRN.

How CloudWerx Achieved Google Cloud Premier Status In ‘Under A Year’

CloudWerx’s Google Cloud push was led by Betsy Reed, co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing, who created top-notch sales and technical teams with a go-to-market strategy focused on winning digital-native software customers.

After becoming a Google Cloud partner in late 2020, Reed said her startup was able to achieve its Premier status in “under a year” by a relentless focus on obtaining certifications, onboarding smaller Google Cloud customer accounts, and building a joint business plan with the Google.

“CloudWerx is specifically committed to changing the game for the partner ecosystem,” said Reed. “We are not just a lazy lackadaisical value-added reseller that takes on a bill and gets fat and happy on that MRR. We are hustling every single day for that customer’s mind share, market share and understanding ways we can accelerate their business. That shows because, to date, we’ve never lost one customer.”

‘Hit That Target As Quickly As Humanly Possible’

The startup, founded in 2020, worked hard on demonstrating to Google Cloud its volume of billings through its platform around new customer acquisition, services and attention to details.

“Every single day that was our commitment as leaders: to hit that target as quickly as humanly possible with scalability and with longevity,” said Reed.

CloudWerx didn’t achieve its Premier status based on one or two big customer wins, but by winning smaller customers “brick-by-brick-by-brick,” she said.

“Now we’re on track to hit 100 customers by the end of this month, which is unheard of when a year ago, we had one on our billing platform,” said Reed.

Additionally, CloudWerx was constantly reaching out to Google reps asking the cloud giant to bring the startup into more accounts. Once inside accounts, CloudWerx was able to demonstrate its prowess both from a technical and sales perspective.

The company now provides cloud migration and discovery for companies moving their workloads from on-premise to the cloud; infrastructure architecture reviews for companies new to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP); data analytics services; and security services via a GCP audit to help companies secure their environment.

CloudWerx’s Google Cloud Plans Ahead

Thanks to the relationships CEO Geis has built in Silicon Valley over his more than 20 years in the channel, and Reid’s expertise in building highly successful sales teams with a focus on account management and salesmanship—CloudWerx is seeking to become one of Google Cloud’s largest partners in North America.

One key to CloudWerx’s success is to not be held down by any limitations in its go-to-market and Google Cloud sales charge.

“Everything starts with vision from the leadership from the top down. If we say, ‘This can’t be done in under four years,’ then we sure as hell know that’s not going to happen,” said Reed.

Geis believes the already massive cloud computing market and global cloud consumption demand is just getting underway, with his company perfectly positioned alongside Google Cloud to witness massive growth over the next few years.

“I don’t want to say the cloud is infinite, but I think that the growth of the cloud is just starting,” said Geis. “From a forecasting standpoint, the growth is just a hockey stick up.”

Alano Medonte, Google Cloud’s Canadian enterprise partner sales leader, said CloudWerx’s “unique focus on Google Cloud scale and corporate business, while having extensive earned relationships with some of Google‘s top technology customers and partners, makes CloudWerx truly unique in the space.”

Reed said her next goal for CloudWerx is clear: become the fastest partner to ever achieve Google Cloud Managed Services Provider (MSP) status. “We intend to do that in the next two quarters,” she said.
