Software asset management company Flexera has acquired RISC Networks and its software-as-a-service analytics platform that helps companies hasten their migration to the cloud.

Flexera said the platform extends its ability to deliver information technology (IT) insights and spend optimization and adds an essential business service view to its existing visibility into software, hardware and cloud assets.

It’s the fourth acquisition by Itasca, Ill.-based Flexera since the beginning of 2018 and follows its purchases of Rightscale, MetaSaaS and BrainWare Group. Flexera would not disclose terms of the deal.

“Our cloud management platform optimizes cloud usage for our customers,” Flexera CEO Jim Ryan said in a statement. “We’re always seeking to strengthen our capabilities in cloud migration -- an area that’s becoming more of a focus for IT executives and analysts. With our acquisition of RISC Networks, we can help our customers even earlier in their journey to the cloud. We can now help them assess, prioritize and price which on-premise workloads they should migrate to the cloud.”

RISC Networks’ Foundation and Cloudscape products helps companies including CapGemini, IBM, Turner Broadcasting, Viacom and Eastman Chemical more effectively move from on-premise to the cloud by discovering all of a company’s IT infrastructure, automatically organizing the information into the relevant business services that are essential to the enterprise, and evaluating, prioritizing and costing the applications to be moved to the cloud.

A majority of RISC’s approximately 40 employees and executives will stay on with Flexera, and RISC’s Asheville, N.C., office will remain open.
