Capgemini’s executive vice president, Camillo Speroni, has left to join the world’s leading cloud provider Amazon Web Services for a top partner role.

“I am passionate about change,” said Speroni in a LinkedIn post today. “Innovation equals change, and to innovate, you need a customer in need and someone focused on building this innovation on their behalf. I have joined Amazon Web Services, the builders’ company, where customers are always at the center of every discussion and decisions to innovate while constantly looking at their long-term benefit.”

Speroni is an industry veteran with over two decades of experience working for the likes of Oracle, Novell and CA Technologies. He left Oracle in 2020 as vice president of worldwide strategic alliances and cloud go-to-market to join Capgemini.

At Capgemini, which ranked No. 7 in CRN’s 2021 Solution Provider 500 list, Speroni was executive vice president and head of the company’s Group Strategic Initiatives, Partners and Ecosystem (GSIP).

He joins AWS as director of partner, initiatives and go-to-market, according to his LinkedIn profile. AWS did not respond for comment by press time. Speroni could not be reached for comment.

More than 100 people commented on LinkedIn to congratulate Speroni on his new role including executives from Oracle, Accenture and VMware. Many of AWS’ channel executives also welcomed Speroni to the team via LinkedIn, including the company’s worldwide channel leader Ruba Borno.

“I am incredibly excited for this new start in my journey and I want to thank [AWS vice president of worldwide professional services] Todd Weatherby, [AWS vice president of global services] Uwem Ukpong and [AWS worldwide channels and alliances leader] Ruba Borno for their trust and support,” said Speroni.

AWS Hires Builders

Speroni joining AWS due to the company’s innovation and strategy on hiring “builders” echoes recent statements made by Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy.

Jassy, who was previously CEO of AWS, said Amazon and AWS specifically target “builders” who invest solutions to help customers.

“We disproportionately index in hiring builders. We think of builders as people who like to invent, who look at customer experiences, dissect what doesn’t work well about them, and seek to reinvent them,” said Jassy last week in his first-ever annual shareholder letter as CEO. “We want people who keep asking why can’t it be done? We want people who like to experiment and tinker, and who realize launch is the starting line, not the finish line.”

Organizing these builders into teams that are as separable and autonomous as possible is a key strategy for Jassy, along with giving these teams the right tools and permission to move fast.

“Speed is not pre-ordained. It’s a leadership choice. It has trade-offs, but you can’t wake up one day and start moving fast. It requires having the right tools to experiment and build fast (a major part of why we started AWS), allowing teams to make two-way door decisions themselves, and setting an expectation that speed matters. And, it does,” said Jassy. “Speed is disproportionally important to every business at every stage of its evolution. Those that move slower than their competitive peers fall away over time.”

Speroni’s hiring comes just one week after AWS hosted its AWS Summit event in San Francisco, which saw the cloud company launch new offerings around its Aurora Serverless, IoT TwinMaker, Amplify Studio and AWS Glue cloud solutions.
