IBM VAR Ryjac Acquires Services, Colo Provider

Ryjac Computer Solutions, an Irvine, Calif.-based solution provider and IBM premier partner, in early December acquired Express ASP, an Irvine, Calif.-based provider of a variety of services via its Irvine and Scottsdale, Ariz., data centers.

Mitch Kleinman, president of Ryjac, was one of the original investors in Express ASP, but at the time of the initial investment was not sure how well the business would do.

"But I thought their ideas had merit," Kleinman said. "And we wanted to have a hosting facility for our customers."

Express ASP's ideas had enough merit for Ryjac to acquire the entire company. "It made sense for the synergies of Ryjac and Express ASP to not have outside investors," Kleinman said.

The storage and server virtualization business of Ryjac and the co-location and managed services of Express ASP will be a growing part of Ryjac's business as the economy contracts, which is a huge driver for the acquisition, Kleinman said.

"Customers want fixed costs and have someone manage and patch IT while their staff handles their own business," he said.

In addition to offering its own co-location and managed services through the Express ASP consolidation, Ryjac also offers similar services from IBM to its customers, Kleinman said. The choice of which to offer will depend on what is best for the customer, he said.
