Cloudera Shares Tips On Good Data Governance

Cloudera’s SDX offering seeks to make data analytics secure by design.

Data privacy regulations are constantly in flux, challenging companies as they look to integrate data analysis into their daily activities. A wrong move could lead to big fines for a company, as well as operational issues. But enterprise data cloud company Cloudera says it has a fix:

“Our security and governance protocol that we call SDX allows us to have a very fine-grain control access. You can have geo-based, time-based access control,” said Cloudera’s Nadeem Asghar, vice president of global cloud solutions engineering and field CTO at Cloudera.

The Cloudera Data Platform serves as a building block for developers and enterprises to analyze and store data in a multi-cloud environment. The SDX offering is integrated into that platform, where it applies consistent IT policies across the analytics landscape and across all clouds. The solution does that by tagging the metadata, Asghar said.

“That policy goes with the data set, so whatever policy you set up, all of those controls go through the policies. And the best part is, if a customer decides to go from on-prem to public cloud, that policy goes with that,” added Asghar.

The offering is especially valuable for customers in fields like finance, according to Cloudera partner Andy Smith of Talend.

“We work with Ariba,” said Talend Global Systems Integrator and Global Technology Alliances Director Andy Smith. “Ariba works in the financial services sector, so their key drivers were around governance, so they needed to make sure they complied with GDPR and PCDISS, and in order to that effectively and get a full customer 360 [degree] view, we teamed up with Cloudera to deliver that solution.”

It comes as data insights increasingly become the fuel for a business’s growth strategy and customer success. But as more employees and their customers exchange data in different locations, more regulations could come into play.
